Riding for Rory

BOROUGH bikers have revved up support and funds for the Rory the Robot campaign.

A total of 70 bikers from the RMT Riders Club raised £700 at their charity motorcycle ride from the town to the Cotswolds and back.

Members of the group went full throttle in aid of the appeal to raise £1.6million to buy a surgical robot for the Alexandra Hospital to help treat prostate cancer patients.

One of those who took part in the event included consultant breast surgeon at the town’s hospital Nick Purser.

Mr Purser said: “It’s wonderful to see so many people working together to raise funds for prostate cancer. Together we can continue the push towards beating cancer.”

Motorcycle instructor Simon Hayes, who helped organise the event, added: “I was hit for six when a good friend of mine passed away from prostate cancer. We’ve done a ride for various charities every year since in his memory. He was a keen motorcyclist.

“When I heard of this great cause I thought it was the perfect place to donate funds from this year’s ride. I’m planning to support this appeal throughout, and will continue to contribute until enough money has been raised to purchase the machine.”
