Retirement village residents get active for the Commonwealth Games

A LOCAL independence living home is getting ready for the Commonwealth Games by encouraging  residents  become more active.

Staff at Terryspring Court has had social club members doing various physical pursuits to earn points with a grand total of two thousand and twenty two points the target to be hit during the games.

The idea derived from the Redditch home doing something similar for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Volunteer coordinator, Richard Clarke said: ” With the games being on our doorstep in Birmingham it felt like an opportunity to get our clients more involved in this sporting showcase.”

Each week since spring members have been asked to record any activities they have done and points are awarded depending on what degree of things have been done from walking to the shops to going into the home’s inhouse gym.

One of the biggest achievements has to go to Andrew Seymour, aged 76 years old, earning big points for a charity skydive back in May this year.
