Redditch Editorial 3rd Oct, 2019   0

A WARNING has been issued about a scam which is going around whereby callers claim they are from Thomas Cook and are offering a refund.

Members of the public have reported receiving calls and messages about the reimbursements and resident are being advised not to give their bank details out under any circumstances.

The police said legitimate organisations would never contact you out of the blue and ask for your PIN, card details, or full banking passwords.

They advised anyone who received a call or message asking for these should be aware it was a scam.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “We would urge people to be vigilant of unsolicited calls, texts or social media messages that ask for personal or financial details, and not to automatically click on the links in unexpected emails.

“Remember your bank or the police will never ask you to transfer money out of your account, or ask you to hand over cash for safe-keeping.”

Anyone who encounters the scam or has fallen victim to it should report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or via the online reporting tool. https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/alert/warning-thomas-cook-refund-scams
