Redditch's Krafty Sew-and-Sews get knitting to combat breast cancer

A BUNCH of crafty-sew-and-sews have been busy knitting tea cosies to raise funds for Breast Cancer Haven.

The ladies, known as the Krafty Sew-and-Sews, who meet at St Andrew’s Church in Church Hill every Tuesday from 1pm to 3pm aim to raise as much money as possible for the worthy cause.

“They are a lovely group of people – I’ve learnt to knit because of them and next I’ll be looking to learn crocheting,” said young mum Charlie Hynes.

The Krafty-Sew-and-Sew group is a Church Hill Big Local Partnership project. They offer a vibrant Tuesday afternoon get-together with tea and coffee on tap and an opportunity to chat and swap ideas about various crafts including knitting.

“We’ve gone from strength to strength although we could do with more younger people joining,” said Charlie.

“It’s only £1 a week and a taster session is free.”

The fruits of their labours will go on show a week next Tuesday, March 27, from 1pm to 3pm when everyone is invited to drop into the church, have a cup of tea and a cake and enjoy the numerous stalls there, including a tombola, cake sale, crafts, raffle and a guess the weight of the cake competition.
