Redditch walking football sessions hailed a success

Redditch Editorial 10th Jul, 2022   0

WALKING Football sessions at the Abbey Stadium have been hailed a success after 18 players attended this week’s session.

The sessions started on June 27 and have seen around 16 to 20 people taking part each week, with many spectators looking on.

The sessions are run every Monday for an hour from 10.30am and have been organised by Redditch Borough Council alongside Rubicon Leisure.

It sees reduced physical contact and tackling compared to the regular game and no running, jogging or heading.

Walking football is open to all and allows people to improve their physical well-being while socialising.

The sessions have been funded by Versus Arthritis through the council’s Sports Development Team, which is working towards holding another walking football session at Arrow Valley Lake.

Council leader Coun Matt Dormer said: “With the warmer weather coming what a great reason to get outside and enjoy exercising, playing, and meeting new people.”
