A SPRINKLING of snow helped families in Redditch get into the festive mood on Saturday at the grand Christmas lights switch-on.

The annual free event on Church Green featured an array of spectacular performances topped by Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Star Wars-themed Boogie Storm.

Families, Redditch businesses and local dignitaries came out to enjoy modern music, traditional carols and vintage singers as part of the parade too, bringing the townspeople together in the spirit of the season.

Held in partnership with the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, Redditch Borough Council and the Town Centre Partnership the Community Christmas Parade marched from the Town Hall into the Kingfisher, then over to Church Green as spectators waved them on.

Leader of Redditch Borough Council Bill Hartnett added: “I joined hundreds of mums, dads and excited children at the Redditch Christmas lights and it was a very cold afternoon but the entertainment was excellent.

“The lights look great and it signals the start of the Christmas season.”

With a brass band, glittering costumes, monkeys and mascots and even elves and a visit from Father Christmas, a splendid time was had by all.

As part of the celebrations, money was collected for a variety of local charities, including Primrose Hospice and Betel UK.
