THERE’S a feast of fantastic artists to see this bank holiday weekend courtesy of Worcestershire Open Studios writes Yixuan Wu.

It’s the fourth year of the three-day event. A diverse collection of arts and crafts will be available to see and buy in a range of different media, including printmaking, painting, textiles, photography, ceramics, jewellery and mixed media.

Artists across Worcestershire in 81 locations across the county stretching from Bewdley to Colwall and Badsey to Redditch, have been busy preparing to welcome visitors into their studios.

Artist and co-organiser, Sally Anne Morgan, said: “Discovering some of Worcestershire’s fantastic artistic talent is the perfect way to spend a bank holiday weekend. Entry to all venues is free and some are also offering refreshments – you’ll definitely receive a warm welcome.”

As well as introducing you to their creative habitats, some artists are also offering a chance to have a go yourself.

One such is Victor Kirk of Lighthouse Glass in Astwood Bank.

“Visitors can expect a warm welcome and lots of tea, coffee and cakes. They will be able to watch me demonstrating lampworking and will also be able to have a go themselves,” he said.

Edgiock Glass is another open studios first timer. Curated and run by Mark Robbins and Judith McLelland, visitors to this newly-built communal glass fusing studio will get to see the kiln, watch demonstrations of this fascinating art practice.

Also taking part are artists Sue Wilson and Jan Mason from their studio home at Holly House 3 Longborough Close in Redditch.

Two artists in Bromsgrove are also opening up their studios, David Skidmore and Gillian Simpson, while don’t forget the Canalside Craft Centre in Stoke Prior and of course the Jinny Ring in Hanbury.

Visit www.worcestershireopenstudios.org.uk for the details of all the artists, venues and opening times is also available at local libraries.

Visitors to five or more studios will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw for £100 to spend on artwork created by one or more of the artists.
