Redditch school celebrates success in both the arts and the sciences

SUCCESS in the arts and the sciences have been celebrated at this St Bede’s Catholic Middle School.

Last week three teams of six pupils took part in an Institute of Engineering and Technology Day against Woodfield Middle School, just further down the Studley Road.

Pupils had to make a vehicle that would help somebody in a natural disaster.

Due to some fantastic team work and innovative thinking, one of the St Bede’s groups won the competition with their design of a a boat with caterpillar tracks – so that it could go in the sea and on land.

For taking part in the day they received an industrial cadet challenger award for completing a hands-on problem solving and critical thinking activity.

Industrial Cadets is run by the Engineering Development Trust and works with UK employers to create a talent pipeline and a future skilled workforce.

Meanwhile pupils celebrated their Platinum Artsmark status in a week which culminated in a ‘Dress as your Favourite Artist or Musician’ last Friday, October 11.

Youngsters have enjoyed Pavement Art, Keyboard Club, Garageband Groovers, Singers, Boys Gotta Sing, Ukulele Club, Orchestra, Guitar Club and live performances on the stage at lunchtimes.

St Bede’s have entered more than 1,000 pupils into Bronze and Silver Arts Awards over the last few years, an extra qualification which demonstrates pupils’ creativity and individuality.

Due to this St Bede’s were recently awarded Music Mark and became a Trinity Champion Centre.
