Computers wanted for school children, say Redditch Rotary Club in fresh appeal

REDDITCH Rotary Club is appealing for computers to help borough youngsters with their school work.

The call comes as children and parents struggle with a lack of tech and the demands of home schooling.

Rotary past president Derek Dixon said: “As March 8 approaches, you can almost hear the parents of Redditch counting down the days until the children return to school.

“For some, the recent months have meant working from home whilst supporting the children’s online education, challenging enough, but for others, it has meant a very different scenario.

“Many homes have only one computer and parents have had to make a choice between working and their child’s education.

“Many more have been denied even this choice as a computer is a luxury beyond their means.

“The children from the less advantaged homes will return to school needing to catch up with their more fortunate classmates.”

He added that the Rotary Club of Redditch, which is made up of men and women from varied backgrounds but with a common commitment to help communities, was appealing for computers they could distribute to needy families.

“Ideally we would like new computers, but many organisations and businesses have discarded computers that, with refurbishment, could be suitable,” said Derek.

“We really would like to see these in the homes of children who need them.

“After all, the children are our future.”
