REDDITCH Rotary Club has handed a £1,200 cheque to ShelterBox in the wake of Hurricane Dorian which flattened or seriously damaged thousands of homes in The Bahamas.

Hurricane Dorian struck in August and with winds just shy of 180mph is regarded as the worst natural disaster to hit the islands in the country’s history.

ShelterBox is an organisation which rolls out emergency disaster relief and is a charity supported by Rotary in Britain.

After Dorian struck the Redditch club collected money through donations and a contribution from Rotary Foundation, raising £1,200 in the process.

This money was handed to ShelterBox who were exhibiting at the Rotary Annual District Conference at the De Vere Orchard Hotel in Nottingham.

Redditch Rotary Club also supports a local charity – this year it is Carers Careline, which plays a vital role in looking after carers, people who save the NHS millions of pounds oevery year.

Rotary’s next fundraiser for Carers Careline is on November 30 with a storytelling of Charles Dickens’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ at Beoley Village Hall.

Tickets for what promises to be a heartwarming night for a great charity are £9 from Derek Dixon at [email protected].
