Redditch Police step up action to ease anti social behaviour fears

A WIDE ranging initiative has resulted in police taking a number of active steps to reassure residents in Woodrow concerned about anti social behaviour.

And last week Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police John Campion visited the area to see for himself the changes that have been put in place and to meet with the borough councillor responsible for community services, Nyear Nazir and the local ward representative Coun Emma Marshall.

PCC Campion said: “I share the commitment that partners are working together to understand and effectively tackle issues that affect communities such as those in Woodrow.

“Whilst there is always more to do, I am reassured by the engagement and priority attached to the issues in Woodrow.”

Actions taken by police include increased patrols of Woodrow Centre and surrounding areas and increased engagement with local businesses.

They’ve also issued anti social behaviour letters and Community Protection Notice Warning and arrested youths for criminal damage.

In addition officers have met with Redditch Boxing Academy and Bodyshot Boxing to discuss any support they can offer, to include scholarship referrals and are liaising with Army Reserves to arrange an youth engagement day for local youths.

They are also arranging an exploitation awareness session and are talking with the tenancy officer for Woodrow regarding concerns on youths congregating around specific addresses.

Coun Nazir said: “This is fantastic news for Woodrow and its residents and should go someway to reassure them that this Council is listening and will continue to work with agencies, including the Police, to ensure all of our communities feel safe and are proud of the place they live.”

Coun Marshall added: “I’ve been working hard liaising with both Redditch Borough Council and local police to ensure everything is being done to stop this recent spate of anti social behaviour.

“The safety of the wider community is paramount. I want residents to know that I am listening and will continue to do everything I can.”

Anyone with concerns can raise them at the next PACT meeting with the police, public and councillors this Sunday, May 22 at 1.30pm outside Woodrow hairdressers.
