REDDITCH’S Paralympic gold medalist Claire Cashmore will receive a new Worcestershire award created to honour those who have raised the profile of the county.
The swimmer will be given the Black Pear which appears on the region’s flag at a ceremony in Evesham Rowing Club on Friday (October 28) at 1.30pm.
She will be joined by rower Alex Gregory and fellow Paralympian Lauren Rowles as the first to receive the honour to celebrate World class Worcestershire.
Worcestershire County Councillor Lucy Hodgson, the Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Localism and Communities, is supporting the initiative.
She said: “Worcestershire is filled with local heroes and people who deserve to be acknowledged. Through this campaign we can celebrate them in a way that only Worcestershire can. Winning an Olympic Gold medal is an incredible achievement which makes Alex, Claire and Lauren the perfect people to pick up this award.”
