Redditch opticians Bainbridge put the focus on Guide Dogs for the Blind

REDDITCH opticians Bainbridge Optometrists have been supporting Guide Dogs for the Blind by donating £10 to the charity for every OCT appointment booked in February.

The idea came about after optometrist Steve Bainbridge spoke to patient Morna Farquhar who raises Guide Dog puppies.

After Morna explained both the process of training a puppy, as well as how they can support owners with visual impairments, the opticians decided to donate money for every OCT appointment booked.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test and uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of the retina. Over the course of February, more than 30 appointments were booked and a grand total of £380 was donated by Bainbridge to the charity.

Steve said: “We’re incredibly proud to be able to both raise awareness of eye health while raising money for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Having your eyes comprehensively checked for both changes in vision and potential health issues is incredibly important.”

With OCT, an optometrist can see each of the retina’s distinctive layers and help identify any eye health issues such as macular degeneration or the early stages of glaucoma.
