A REDDITCH woman has been hailed a hero after she picked up a burning tumble dryer and threw it into the garden to save her children and her house.
The drama unfolded just after 8.30am on Thursday morning at the family home in Ash Tree Road in Batchley.
Ambreen Kausar had put the tumble dryer on and was getting her children ready for school when, after a few minutes, she noticed smoke pouring out of it.
“I saw a lot of smoke and the flames and I just picked it up and rushed out into the garden with it,” said the mother of five.
“I didn’t really think about it, I just acted, although I did burn my fingers.”
Redditch firefighters attended the scene and extinguished the blaze with a hose while Ambreen was treated for burns by West Midlands Ambulance Service and later at the Alex before returning home with her hands bandaged.
Her husband Ansat Mahmood missed the drama having left for work at Redditch car interior giants Antolin based at Moons Moat.
He said: “She is amazing, a real hero, she was just getting the elder kids ready for school and she just acted – she’s so brave.”
Near neighbour Asif Taj added: “What she did was remarkable – she saved her house and the kids. All the neighbours around here think she’s a hero.”
