Redditch MP Rachel Maclean welcomes more funding for schools

Redditch Editorial 2nd Sep, 2019   0

REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has welcomed a £14.4billion funding boost for schools and colleges across England.

For schools in Redditch, the funding package will see per primary pupil funding rise from £3,872 in 2019/20 to a minimum of £4,000 from 2021/22 an increase of £128.

For secondary schools in Redditch, per pupil funding will increase from £4,975 to a minimum of £5,000 per pupil next year, an increase of £25.

The funding deal also includes an extra £700million for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in 2020/21.

“This funding will be especially welcome here in Worcestershire as we have lagged behind areas such as Birmingham for decades,” said Mrs Maclean.

“It’s not fair that children in Redditch receive less funding than those just up the road in Birmingham when the challenges are comparable.

“This is why school funding has been a top priority for me since I was first elected in 2017.

“We must end the historic underfunding of our schools, and this announcement is another big step in the right direction.”

It has also been announced that further education and sixth form colleges will receive £400million additional funding to train and teach our young people the skills they need for well-paid jobs in the modern economy.

The money announced will be allocated across the 257 colleges in England, including sixth form colleges in Redditch and the Heart of Worcestershire College.
