REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean says she ‘will fight for the Alex’s fair share’ of the £20.5billion earmarked for the NHS as part the government’s Long Term Plan last week.

Recently Prime Minister Theresa May launched the plan which aims to provide the NHS with unprecedented certainty for the next decade, ensuring continuity of care for patients in Redditch and across the UK at every stage of their life.

The Plan is backed up by an investment of £20.5billion a year in real terms by 2023-24 – the biggest NHS cash boost in history.

Mrs Maclean said there are six key parts:

1) Ensuring every baby gets the best start in life by continuing to improve maternity safety, and providing greater mental health support to new parents.

2) Supporting people to age well by bringing different health and care teams together to make sure older people get the support they need to remain independent.

3) Improving outcomes for all major conditions through better prevention, detection, treatment and recovery so people live longer and healthier and giving greater support for mental health services for almost 350,000 more children and young people, and at least an extra 380,000 adults over the next five years.

4) Improved access to mental health, primary care and community services with tens of thousands more doctors, nurses and other health professionals.

5) Rolling out new digital technologies so everyone will have digital access to their GP, including being able to make appointments, manage prescriptions and view their health records.

6) Cutting waste across the NHS by continuing to make sure taxpayers’ money is spent efficiently and making back office savings of more than £700million.

Mrs Maclean said: “The NHS has always been there for me and my family, as I know it has been for all my constituents. The Long Term Plan will ensure our NHS will continue to provide outstanding care to us all in our time of need.

“I will fight for the Alex’s fair share of the £20.5billion which will help secure the future of our hospital. Be in no doubt, the Alex has a bright future with new services opening and investment going into it.”
