REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean joined police officers on a routine patrol on Tuesday, August 27, to discuss the challenges facing them.

One key aspect of the discussion was what can be done to help reduce the dangers which police officers face on the frontline.

The possibility of an increased rollout of tasers across the force was discussed.

She said: “I’m a strong supporter of ensuring the police are properly equipped to do their job, which is why I support the rollout of tasers.”

Mrs Maclean was pleased to learn officers felt they had the legal backing to carry out ‘stop and search’ in an effective and professional manor.

“A top priority for me is tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

“I’ve consistently called for more frontline officers on the streets which we will see by the end of the year with 35 extra police officers for Redditch and North Worcestershire.

“I regularly help residents deal with anti-social behaviour issues in their local communities.

“It was a useful opportunity to raise these concerns with Inspector Mark Chappell, PC Downs and Sgt Roberts during our meeting.”
