THE branch secretary of Redditch Labour Party has resigned after it was found he shared anti-Semitic messages online.

Alan Mason left his post on Monday, October 14.

He had shared posts on his personal Facebook account suggesting Jewish people were behind terrorist groups and had profited from 9/11.

The posts dating as far back as 2012, but as recent as this year, were spotted by Twitter user @LabourAgaintsAS who aims to ‘make the Labour Party a safe place for Jewish people by eradicating antisemitic abuse’.

The person behind the account claims to have made a formal complaint about Mason to Labour on June 25 this year, but says nothing was done.

On June 28 Mason was made secretary of Redditch Labour.

Redditch Labour County Councillor Robin Lunn confirmed Mason had resigned, both as CLP secretary, and as a Labour Party member with ‘immediate effect’.

“Alan has communicated that he does not wish to comment further as he is no longer a party member,” he said.

Mason had also worked for Redditch’s Parliamentary Labour candidate, Rebecca Jenkins.

Her spokesperson said she had no comment to make on internal Labour Party matters.
