A COMMUNITY running group set up to get children to be more active has been honoured with a prestigious regional athletics award for its volunteering work.
Kids Run Redditch, which holds free weekly events for all the family at the Abbey Stadium, were named runners up in the England Athletics West Midlands Community Project of the Year category.
The Regional Volunteer Awards 2024 ceremony was held on Monday, September 9 at the Midlands Art Centre, Birmingham.
Club chairman Jason Furness said: “Winning this award means so much to us as a club. It’s a recognition of the community spirit that we have cultivated, the friendships that have been formed and the achievements we have celebrated together.
“From beginners taking their first steps in running to seasoned athletes smashing their personal bests, Kids Run Redditch is a place where everyone’s journey is supported and celebrated.”
The group, which is run by volunteers, meets every Saturday morning at 9.30am for the exercise sessions. Children run around the 400m track for 20 minutes, logging the laps as they go and the whole family is encouraged to join in.
