REDDITCH is to receive a £75,088 to help support the town’s high street get safely back to business.

The cash is part of a £50 million ‘Reopening High Streets Safely Fund’ to help councils in England introduce a range of safety measures to kick-start local economies, get people back to work and customers back to the shops.

It will also support a range of practical measures including new signs, street markings and temporary barriers.

The money will be not just for high streets and town and city centres, but also in other public spaces.

Councils will also be able to use the money to develop local marketing campaigns explaining what measures have taken place and to reassure people that shopping areas are safe.

“As we begin to slowly return to normality, the re-opening of our high streets will be key to kick-starting our economic recovery,” said local MP Rachel Maclean.

“This funding to help Redditch Borough Council in this endeavour is very welcome.

“Unlocking Redditch’s full potential is a top priority for myself and the council and this work is continuing as we develop Redditch’s Town Deal bid.

“We are determined to access the full £25 million in order to regenerate our town.”

It is the government’s ambition to reopen non-essential retail in a phased way from June 1, subject to scientific advice.
