Redditch gears up for ‘The Great Get Together’

Ross Crawford 12th Jun, 2019

REDDITCH is gearing up for ‘The Great Get Together’, a UK wide celebration pulling communities together to share food, games and conversation.

This year it’s at Headless Cross Community Orchard on Saturday June 22 from 1pm to 3pm where it will feature picnics, games, and more.

Visitors can also enter into the Midsummer’s Day Hat Contest, being judged at 2.30pm with a top prize of a Laura Ashley luxury afternoon tea for two, donated by Southcrest Manor Hotel.

Orchard volunteer Lee Jennings said: “We’re delighted to host The Great Get Together on Headless Cross Community Orchard.

“There’s nothing better than people coming together to share food and a good chinwag.

“We’re hoping to see a real mix of local people coming together to enjoy the orchard.”

People are encouraged to bring a blanket or picnic chair, plus picnic food and cakes for sharing. There will be games suitable for all abilities.

Amongst other local groups taking part, the event is supported by the Royal British Legion and Sight Concern.

This year marks the third anniversary of The Great Get Together weekend, inspired by Jo Cox MP, who was killed in June 2016.

This year’s Great Get Together is held on what would have been her 45th birthday.
