Redditch couple hoping it's third time lucky to finally tie the knot

Ross Crawford 11th Apr, 2022 Updated: 11th Apr, 2022

IT WILL be fingers crossed for one Matchborough couple next Thursday when they try to get married – at the third attempt.

Star-crossed lovers Ian Prowse and Nikki Shelton have had their wedding plans wrecked two times by Covid but now the photobooth businessman and cancer nurse specialist are hoping it will be third time lucky.

“We got engaged on Christmas Day 2019 – my mum had died on Christmas Day seven years earlier and the idea was to create some happy memories,” said Ian.

April 9, 2020 was the date they named but while on holiday in Jamaica in March they could see the coronavirus storm clouds gathering.

“Everything had been paid for – the wedding was to be at Dumbleton Hall in Evesham, and they’ve been absolutely brilliant throughout – but then of course lockdown happened,” he added.

Undeterred Ian, who runs Smileybooth at Greenlands Business Park and Nikki, who works at both the Alex and Worcestershire Royal, set their hearts on April 1, 2021, only for that date too to be cancelled.

“The pandemic has caused huge disruption for weddings and parties across the country, I know as it’s affected me at Smileybooth,” said Ian.

Now though the happy couple, who are both getting wed for the second time and have five children between them, are sure everything will run smoothly for their big day back at Dumbleton Hall this Thursday, April 14.

They will then have a week before jetting off to Mauritius on their honeymoon.

“As for many others, Covid-19 had caused huge disruptions to many areas of our lives but now things are finally on the up,” said Ian.
