A STAGGERING £9,000 was raised at Redditch’s annual Polish community get together WOSP earlier this month.

WOSP, also known as The Great Orchestra Of Christmas Charity, held the three day event from Friday, January 11 to Sunday, January 13.

People from all over the Midlands and beyond came to sing, dance, eat and drink their way to a good time.

“Last year’s event raised £10,000 so we missed out on our target but it was still a fantastic return,” said joint organiser Frankie Prazer.

“Altogether, including the WOSP events in Redditch, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Coventry the total was £20,093 which is incredible.”

The aim was to raise as much money as possible to help sick children and the elderly in Poland, providing money to pay for medical kit that here in Britain we take for granted.

Coun Bill Hartnett (Lab, Church Hill) said: “I had a fantastic time at the event.

“£20,000 is a magnificent total and I am sure the funds raised will help a lot of children.

“Everyone who took part should be very proud, well done.”
