A REDDITCH chippy will be offering free meals to eligible school children during next week’s half-term break.

Batchley Road Fish Bar announced today that any child who is normally entitled to free meals at school will be able to do same at the popular chippy.

The youngsters will be able to choose between having either sausage, chips and peas/beans or fish cake, chips and peas/beans.

Both set meals, available everyday between 11.30am and 1.45pm, from October 27 to 30, will come with a free drink.

The kind-hearted chippy said on Facebook: “Following the Government’s decision not to provide free meals for school children over the half-term holiday, we would like to do something to help the community.

“We will be providing a hot meal for any school child who is normally entitled to free school meals.

“We believe that no child in this country should ever have to go hungry.”

To qualify, staff will need to see proof that the child or children are currently entitled to free school meals.

Donations to Redditch Foodbank can also be given over the counter.

Golden Carp Chippy has also announced it will be helping over the school break but is yet to reveal plans.
