Redditch man writes book to inspire youngsters to go vegan

AN author from Church Hill has released a children’s book to inspire young meat eaters to convert to veganism.

Andy Atkinson, who is a vegan himself, says his new book titled ‘I’m Not Your Mum This is Not Your Milk’ is not aimed at vegans but instead ‘everyone who is not’.

“It’s a bit like preaching to the choir,” said the 32-year-old.

“We’ve all read the story of the happy cow who eats grass, gets milked and then we drink the milk.

“Before writing the book I hadn’t really considered how stories like that can be harmful and teach our children that this practice is normal and acceptable.”

The dad-of-three’s book, published by Planet Based, tells the story of a boy called Leon who searches the animal kingdom for milk.

Each animal, including a cat and a cow, tell Leon that their milk is not for him but instead their ‘little ones’.

Eventually Leon realises there are other alternatives to drinking animal’s milk, such as soya, coconut and almond milk.

The book has been sent to libraries across Worcestershire and is on sale at Mason Road Post Office in Redditch.

It can also be bought online for £4.99 at www.planetbasedpublishings.co.uk
