Redditch arts trail the perfect tonic for boosting mental health

Redditch Editorial 25th Jul, 2021   0

TIME is running out to discover the Redditch Arts Trail.

Throughout July residents and visitors have been able to go on a journey across the town centre as part of an initiative to promote and raise awareness of good mental health.

Following the theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, the installations of fine art, photography, craft, murals and more aim to reflect nature and the environment.

Colourful exhibits have been put on display in shop windows and outdoor spaces alongside information on how to access support for your mental health.

Bringing together art, exercise and mental health, ‘Now We’re Talking with Art’ has been aimed at highlighting ways to maintain wellbeing, self-help and signpost to additional support if it’s needed.

It’s all part of a drive by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, the main providers of mental health services which has teamed up with the borough council and a host of local partners and businesses for the trail.

Ken Williams, general manager at Kingfisher Shopping Centre, said: “Supporting the local community is a priority for the team at Kingfisher.”

Emily from Artist Club House added: “I truly believe that positivity and happiness is linked to creativity and hobbies.

“If I can help to inspire people to seek help and be creative that would be amazing.”

Dawn Stallard from Healthy Minds, said: “There are many situations in a person’s life which can lead to stress, anxiety, low mood or depression, and sometimes there are no obvious causes but asking the question and starting a conversation with someone can make a big difference.”

To contact the Healthy Minds team without needing to see another health professional first call 0300 0135727 or visit the Healthy Minds website at www.healthyminds.whct.nhs.uk.

The arts trail around Redditch is set to close at the end of this month. For a map, visit the local library or visit https://www.healthyminds.whct.nhs.uk/redditch-trail to download one.
