LIVE: Redditch General Election.

REDDITCH Conservatives have spoken of a moment of euphoria when they heard the result of the first exit poll on this General Election day, Thursday, December 12.

And their candidate, Rachel Maclean has said she is ‘reasonably confident’ of retaining the seat she first won just two years ago in 2017.

She said: “The moment before the exit poll came out was very tense, and obviously we have to wait until all the votes have been counted but it’s looking reasonably good at the moment and we’re reasonably confident.

“If we can form a government with a clear majority it will be a great relief to everyone.”

On the question of whether the Conservatives too would be for the many, not the few, she said: “We are a one nation party we want to level up the differences in this country, we want to give everyone the opportunity to get on in life which is why people who have never previously voted Conservative are voting for us now.”
