Popular Redditch boxing club moves to new premises

Redditch Editorial 12th Sep, 2020   0

BODYSHOT Boxing has moved to new premises in Woodrow Centre.

The popular club, which has already produced one England boxer in Maddie Adkins, aims to be at the heart of the community bringing fitness and sport to the local area.

And on hand for the grand opening was local MP Rachel MP and borough Mayor Councillor Gareth Prosser.

Mrs Maclean said: “A great turnout to open Bodyshot Boxing’s new home in Woodrow.

“This club has already created one England boxer – inspirational Maddie – and I’m sure it will create more in the future!”

Maddie’s father, Marcus, who runs the club said: “We were absolutely delighted to get not just the Mayor but also our MP down to the opening.

“It’s amazing, Mrs Maclean was really down to earth and took the time to speak to people, which was fantastic.”

Bodyshot Boxing is coached by former boxer Carl Walton and was previously based in Millsborough House near the town centre.

Over the summer lockdown the club reached out to people self-isolating by putting on online Zoom fitness classes run by Marcus’s wife Shirley for ladies and his son Ty for youngsters.

Now Marcus is hoping this latest move will put the club at the heart of the community.

“We’ll be doing classes for mini boxers, youth, elite, over 35s, ladies fitness and possibly classes for couples like mother/daughter,” he said.

“Carl’s a great coach who wants to put something back into his community and boxing’s a great sport – it teachers discipline and respect.

“People can come along, they can be competitive if they want to and Carl can take them as far as they want to go.”

Local campaigner Emma Marshall added: “A boxing gym in Woodrow in so fantastic and I am super excited to see this open.”
