LOCAL people were asked to avoid the Church Hill Centre in Redditch yesterday after two elderly ladies were hit by a reversing lorry in Redditch.

The incident took place at 8am on Monday, October 15, near Church Hill Way.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a BASICS doctor and the critical care car from the Midlands Air Ambulance attended.

“The two women were given trauma care for their injuries by ambulance staff on scene before being taken by land ambulance to a major trauma centre for further treatment.”

West Mercia Police and the fire service were also in attendance.

Councillor Pat Witherspoon (Lab, Church Hill) said: “The bus lane is a nightmare.

“It doesn’t work because you have drivers travelling down it all the time.

“Coun Bill Hartnett has been very vocal about the changes that need to be made.

“More vehicle restrictions are needed to slow down the traffic.”

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Please respect the casualties and their families by not sharing distributing images of the incident.”

Officers want to speak to anyone who was at the scene and saw what happened.

Call 101 and quote incident reference number 088s 151018.
