POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two men were stabbed when a fight broke out in Mickleton Close in Oakenshaw on Wednesday evening, May 23.

Officers were called to the close at 10.45pm where a group of ten or more youths, some with their faces covered, are believed to have attacked another group with weapons.

The larger group reportedly left in two cars, believed to be a Nissan Micra and a Vauxhall Zafira.

Four people were injured two with stab wounds although none are life-threatening.

The stabbing victims were taken to hospital but were subsequently released.

Officers will be providing reassurance patrols and speaking to people in the area over the coming days.

Detective Inspector Gerry Smith said: “This was large scale disorder in a residential area. It will have undoubtedly been shocking for anyone who witnessed it.

“Fortunately, nobody was more seriously injured and we will be working hard to identify the others involved and bring them in for questioning.

“If anyone can help us to identify those involved I would urge them to call 101 quoting incident 853S of 23 May.

“Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
