Police alert after scammer steals from Redditch resident's bank account

Redditch Editorial 8th Jul, 2019   0

POLICE have issued an alert after a Redditch resident was the victim of a scam telephone call.

Someone calling herself ‘Katie’ called the person claiming she was from Barclays Bank.

Police say she then asked the householder to enter various codes and shortly after a quantity of money was removed from the person’s bank account.

Officers say criminals often use scam phone calls as a way of defrauding people out of their money.

They often pose as Police Officers, tax officers, bank or credit card companies representatives or computer or broadband help desks.

Crime prevention advice can be found on the West Mercia Police website.
