Phoenix in five figure cash boost to support foodbank charity

WYTHALL-based Phoenix Group has donated £50,000 to big-hearted charity the Trussell Trust, which supports foodbanks across the country.

The donation is just one tranche of cash handed out by the organisation which also gave £20,000 to SIFA Fireside, the central hub for homeless adults in Digbeth, Birmingham.

Earlier this year Phoenix also donated £50,000 to its existing charity partner Midland’s Air Ambulance Charity, which flies to the rescue of more than 3,500 people and extended its partnership to the end of 2020.

As the impact of coronavirus continues to unfold, food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network reported their busiest ever month ever, with an 89 per cent increase in emergency food parcels given to people across the UK in April 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. This includes a 107 per cent increase in the number of parcels going to children.

Andy Moss, Phoenix Life CEO and Group Director, Heritage Business, said: “Many charities are dealing with unprecedented demand for their services just now.

“At a time when finances may be stretched, it’s more important than ever that those businesses who are able to do so, help their local charities in the Midlands.”

The Phoenix Group is one of the largest providers of insurance services in the United Kingdom.
