PEOPLE visiting the Kingfisher Shopping Centre were evacuated last night after a fire broke out in Burger King.

Redditch fire service was called to tackle the flames at around 8pm on Sunday August 12.

Dave Handley, from Hollowfields Close, was watching a 6pm showing at Vue Redditch Cinema at the time of the evacuation.

He said: “Near the end of the film I noticed the fire exit door open.

“A man came in and asked everyone to follow him due to a suspected fire.

“The lights didn’t come on and the film carried on playing, it was all very surreal.”

A spokesperson at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre said: “Emergency services were called following a fire within Burger King in The Hub.

“Burger King and neighbouring premises were evacuated as a safety precaution and the fire was extinguished.

“The safety of all our guests remains paramount at all times.

“Burger King will remain closed until further notice as repairs are being made. The rest of the Hub and centre is open as usual.”
