Passengers praised by West Midlands Railway for wearing face coverings

Redditch Editorial 28th Jun, 2020   0

PASSENGERS have been praised by West Midlands Railway after 90 per cent brought face coverings with them during the first week of mandatory masks.

Prior to the new regulations, people were warned they may be refused travel or fined for not complying.

Jonny Wiseman, West Midlands Railway’s customer experience director, said the operator was grateful to the response.

“Less than half of passengers were wearing face coverings before this rule change so to double that figure is a real testament to our customers’ willingness to do the right thing.”

WMR staff have been educating and assisting passengers and handing out face coverings at some stations for those who did not have them.

Some passengers – such as those with breathing difficulties or children under 11 – are exempt from the new face covering regulations.

Trains should only be used for necessary journeys by people who have no other transport option.

Tickets should be bought online and hands should be washed before and after journeys.
