THE bright lights of Paris beckon for a mother and daughter who are pedalling from London to the French capital in aid of Children in Need.
Sharron Dawes and daughter Emily Hant are due to arrive at their destination today, Saturday, September 14.
And it will be the second time in two years that the duo have done the 315 mile trip after Sharron, then aged 50, said she ‘fancied a bit of a challenge’ last year.
“Back then we had no bikes and I hadn’t cycled for years,” said Sharron.
“We got some bikes and did it for the Teenage Cancer Trust, but we struggled to cycle the required distance, especially on the first day when he risked missing the ferry. In the end we had to climb in the support vehicle to make it.
“I never want to do that again – we felt so low, and it was during that incredibly hot summer.”
This time round both are much better prepared.
“In the space of two years we’ve gone from doing 10 miles to 100 miles and we really enjoy it,” said Sharron, who works for a childrens services provider.
She cycles to work three times a week and does a long ride at the weekend.
“This year I’ve done a Land’s End to John o’Groats virtual challenge. I’ve covered 1,088 miles since May and it’s been a really good incentive as it gets you out there and training because you want to hit your deadline.
“I’ve noticed a massive difference in myself, just wanting to get out there in the fresh air, come rain or shine.”
