THE oldest woman in Redditch celebrated turning 111 years old by having a glass of sherry and spending time with her family.
Schoolchildren also visited Bowood Court and Mews resident Hilda Heath, who was born on Sunday, March 15, 1908, and gave her handmade birthday cards.
Hilda is believed to be the second oldest person in the UK. She has been retired for a staggering 51 years after working as a dressmaker in Balsall Heath.
Manager of Bowood Court and Mews, Dawn Leaver, said: “We have loved being part of Hilda’s amazing birthday celebrations.
“It was an honour to create such a wonderful party for her – which was 1940s themed.Hilda proudly displays her cards and telegrams from the Queen in her room. We made sure her birthday cake was pink because it’s her favourite colour.”
On her big day Hilda was surrounded by her large family, which includes seven grandchildren.
She spoke warmly about her love for her husband Arthur, whom she married aged 29, and their holidays together with son Barry.
