Now hear this! Town crier created to mark Jubilee celebrations

OH YEAH! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!

Studley Parish Council has created the historic appointment of an official Town Crier for the village.

Following a parish council meeting where the proposal was unanimously and enthusiastically supported the office of town crier for Studley was bestowed on Councillor Adrian Smith.

A town crier is the ancient equivalent of the internet or newspapers, posting notices and making cries about significant events and keeping the village folk up to date with the news.

“I am delighted and proud to have a town crier in our village which is a great place to live and we wish Adrian all the best for the future,” said Coun Colin Summers, chair of Studley PC.

Adrian has been a parish councillor for 12 years and is a former a school governor.

“I am proud and honoured to serve the community of Studley as its town crier and am looking forward to supporting the many events coming soon, especially for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations,” he said.

And at 9.45pm on Thursday, June 2, Adrian will read out a proclamation on Millennium Green in Studley when the village will join with the nation by lighting a special beacon with a bugle playing and a choir singing the specially composed song to mark the Jubilee.

The following day, Friday, June 3, Studley is holding its very own Jubilee Jamboree at the Sports and Social Club in Eldorado Close.

Hosted by the fantastic Aunty Jen Productions team it will be a ‘quintessentially English village fete from midday til late, with plenty of food and drink, craft stalls and local businesses’. Plus, there will be plenty of things to do, watch, and take part in.
