New swan pedalos launch at Arrow Valley Lake

A NEW ‘swan-derful’ attraction is set to launch at Redditch’s Arrow Valley Lake this weekend.

The seven new swan pedalos will be available from Sunday, July 21, to provide visitors with a fun activity in the picturesque surroundings of the lake.

The swans have been named Arrow, Odette, Beau, Bonham, Queenie, Aurora and Kevin by members of the Redditch community.

These can be hired via a booking system at arrowvalley.co.uk –  the Arrow Valley Lake website.

Kayaks are also available from August to hire as part of the new water activities on offer.

This offer is a part of our continued partnership with Redditch Borough Council to provide opportunities for active and healthy lives.

Rubicon Leisure’s managing director, Ben Clawson-Chan, said he hoped the pedalos and other activities would encourage people to come out, engage, and have fun.

Redditch Borough Councillor Juliet Barker-Smith, who enjoyed a ride out in one of the swans, said, “In my teens, I spent a lot of the school holidays canoeing on Arrow Valley Lake, and now  I can return to the water to enjoy our new swans.

“I am delighted Redditch Borough Council is supporting Rubicon Leisure in bringing new opportunities for people to get out and enjoy our wonderful amenities, which are so important for supporting mental and physical health for people of all ages.”

The council added appropriate water quality and safety checks had taken place to safeguard the wildlife in the area and mitigate any risks the pedalos could have posed to them and their habitats.

This research led to the difficult decision of the council remove three fishing pegs from the area but the authority reassured anglers there would still be plenty available for them to fish from.

A borough council spokesperson added: “We know you’ll all be flocking to the lake to see our latest cyg-nificant assets glide across the water this summer – we’ll see you there.”
