New outdoor exercise facility Area 7 to open at Abbey Stadium

Redditch Editorial 8th Nov, 2021   0

WORK is underway to create a brand new outdoor fitness area at Redditch’s Abbey Stadium.

Christenend ‘Area 7’, it will boast the latest equipment, including a rig for pull-ups, an Olympic lifting platform, Concept 2 bikes, a sled, battle ropes and diametric workout equipment.

Although the area, which is estimated will cost £250,000, is partly covered, the sides will be open to give the sensation of training outside.

Jo Dudley from the Abbey Stadium said: “As well as increasing the opportunities available to our members and customers we hope this new area will attract a new group of users who love to train outside or perhaps are still nervous about doing exercise inside because of Covid.

“The Area 7 equipment provides seven functional movements and is a new way to train and of course our dedicated and trained staff will be on hand to offer professional advice, so users can get the most out of their workout.”

Area 7 is set to open on an initially-limited programme from the start of December, before getting fully into gear from January when there will also be an open day.

Over the last few weeks Rubicon Leisure has made great leaps as its assets, including the Abbey Stadium, which saw the future GB Olympic Pentathlon squad train there over the half-term, recover from the Covid closure.

The Arrow Valley Visitor Centre played a key part in the recent Redditch Borough Council lights event, there was pumpkin half term fun activities at Forge Mill, people are flocking back to Pitcheroak for bostin’ breakfasts and golf, and the Palace Theatre is enjoying packed houses again with the panto Jack and the Beanstalk panto coming this Christmas.

Borough Council Leader Councillor Matt Dormer said: “To bounce back after being closed for the best part of a year is testament to the hard work of Rubicon staff who throughout the pandemic got creative to reach out to people where possible and still provide activities and events to support residents’ mental and physical health.”
