THE new outdoor fitness area at Redditch’s Abbey Stadium has opened to the public and is proving popular with residents with classes already fully booked.

Christenend ‘Area 7’, it has the latest equipment, including a rig for pull-ups, an Olympic lifting platform, Concept 2 bikes, a sled, battle ropes and diametric workout equipment.

The area is partially covered with the sides open to give the sensation of training outside.

Jo Dudley from the Abbey Stadium said: “As well as increasing the opportunities available to our members and customers we hope this new area will attract a new group of users who love to train outside or perhaps are still nervous about doing exercise inside because of Covid.

“The Area 7 equipment provides seven functional movements and is a new way to train and of course our dedicated and trained staff will be on hand to offer professional advice, so users can get the most out of their workout.”

The classes on are Monday, Thursday and Friday with a selection of morning and evening classes.

Borough Council Leader Councillor Matt Dormer said: “To bounce back after being closed for the best part of a year is testament to the hard work of Rubicon staff who throughout the pandemic got creative to reach out to people where possible and still provide activities and events to support residents’ mental and physical health.”
