New headteacher takes over at 'requires improvement' school

ST BENEDICT’S Catholic High School in Alcester has appointed a new headteacher who has big ambitions for the school.

Jon Shires, with more than 15 years experience as a senior leader in Catholic education, takes over as head from this term.

He said: “I am excited at being appointed as the headteacher.

“This school has so much potential and working with a dedicated group of colleagues, great students and their parents/carers this school will once again become a centre of excellence.”

Mr Shires joins St Benedict’s from Trinity Catholic School in Leamington, where he has been Head of School for three years.

St Benedict’s is currently rated as Requires Improvement by Ofsted, following an inspection in March last year.

The new head said: “My key priority is putting students at the centre of everything we do, after all they are why we are here.

“I know the staff at St Benedict’s are passionate, caring and believe that education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.

“By working together we will create young leaders of tomorrow.”
