THE physiotherapy department at the Alexandra Hospital has been able to buy new gym equipment – thanks to a £790 donation from the hospital’s League of Friends.
The kit varies from a new squat rack to an Olympic barbell kit and offers specialist rehabilitation to a variety of patients.
The new equipment will also be available for staff exercise classes that started at the beginning of October.
The initiative gives employees access to a weekly onsite health and fitness class for those who struggle to fit an exercise regime around their shift patterns.
Through the introduction of these new classes the physio team are hoping to see a reduction in staff sickness or prolonged injuries, as they can offer advice and exercises to staff.
Senior physiotherapist, Hanne Brown said: “In the department we are aware how difficult it can be to find time to exercise – especially if you work shifts and have a young family – and we recognise as a health provider we should be looking after our own colleagues’ health as well as our patients.”
