NEW and better-quality CCTV has been installed across the Borough.

Just under £340,000 was spent on upgrading cameras after cash was made available to the North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership – a group of organisations working together to reduce crime in the local area.

Part of the investment will see deployable cameras used freely in areas of local community concern.

All of the CCTV footage, which has been upgraded from analogue to digital, will be monitored from a revamped control centre in Redditch Town Hall.

And the service is understood to run at a lower cost than previously.

Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia, John Campion, said: “I have prioritised investment into the use of the latest technologies to assist with crime prevention and detection.

“The funding I have provided to the partnership for the installation of digital CCTV will enhance policing in the local area and help communities to not only be safe, but feel safe.”

The leader of Redditch Borough Council, Coun Matt Dormer, added that he welcomes the investment.
