AN EXPERIENCED officer who worked her way through the ranks has been named West Mercia Police’s new Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing and Operations at West Mercia Police.

Rachel Jones, who lives in Worcestershire, said she was delighted to be joining the force which serves the area she has lived in for most of her life.

“I am really looking forward to working with colleagues, partners, and the public, to serve the communities of the three counties.”

She began her career with Gloucestershire Police where she undertook a wide range of uniformed, detective and business related roles, as well as tactical firearms, public order and major incident command.

In 2008 she moved to West Midlands Police, working in local policing, programme change and child protection before being appointed the Head of Professional Standards.

Her final role at West Midlands Police was Temporary Assistant Chief Constable where she had responsibility for forensics, Criminal Justice Services, CID, public protection and intelligence.

She is currently at the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) and will take up her new role in the middle of this month.

Anthony Bangham, Chief Constable of West Mercia Police, said he was pleased to welcome Rachel to West Mercia Police.

“She brings with her a wealth of experience and I know that she will be a valuable addition to the force and help us further enhance the service we give to our communities.”
