MP's pledge on return of the Garden Suite to the Alex Hospital

REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has called a meeting of the Alex Working Group for this Friday, March 26, to discuss the Garden Suite Chemotherapy Unit.

The unit, which has its home at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, was temporarily moved to Kidderminster Hospital in January so patients could continue to receive their treatment while the Alex dealt with the coronavirus pandemic.

Health chiefs have since hinted that the temporary move could become permanent in the light of the unit moving into a purposefully refurbished building in Kidderminster.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Rachel said: “My position remains today as it did when I spoke out last month about the temporary relocation of the Garden Suite from the Alex to Kidderminster; when it is safe to do so the chemotherapy unit should be returned to Redditch.

“Temporary must mean temporary and I will make this explicitly clear to Trust bosses when I meet with them on Friday.

“Having visited the Garden Suite at the Alex myself, it really struck me how much it meant to patients that they could be treated in Redditch for something so traumatic as chemotherapy.

“We will fight Trust bosses all the way on this and I will do everything within my power to ensure the Garden Suite is returned to the Alex.”
