MP Rachel Maclean presses again for return of Garden Suite

REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean continued to press the case for the return of the Garden Suite Chemotherapy Unit to the Alexandra Hospital at the first meeting of 2022 of the Alex Working Group.

She met online with the chief executive of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Matthew Hopkins, to discuss the Garden Suite and a planned multi-million investment in the Alex.

And she made clear there was significant opposition to one of the options being considered which is to make the Garden Suite’s move to Kidderminster Hospital permanent.

Already more than 8,300 residents have signed the MP’s petition calling for the unit to be returned to the Alex.

At their meeting, Mrs Maclean and Mr Hopkins also discussed the planned investment which the Alex is due to receive.

“There is a strong case for the Garden Suite to be returned to the Alex,” said Mrs Maclean.

“I know health bosses are listening and I’m confident they’re taking into consideration the concerns of patients and residents opposed to the Garden Suite remaining in Kidderminster.

“Chemotherapy must be provided at all three of the Trust’s hospitals – as was the case before the pandemic.

“I’m also confident in saying the Alex has a bright future ahead of it. There is planned investment which our town’s hospital is in line to receive. The Alex needs and deserves this investment. I can assure you that I’ll never stop fighting for the Alex.”
