Alex to get new Urgent Care Centre 'within the next 12 months' say docs

Redditch Editorial 28th Feb, 2018 Updated: 1st Mar, 2018   0

A NEW Urgent Care Centre at the Alexandra Hospital is scheduled to open within the next 12 months.

The GP-led unit was part of the proposals agreed with the re-configuration of health services last year.

This has resulted in major emergency patients and overnight childrens cases being taken to Worcestershire Royal with both the Royal and the Alex being promised Urgent Care Centres (UCC).

Since then little has happened, prompting Redditch MP Rachel Maclean to this week launch a Parliamentary petition calling for the promised GP-led UCC to be delivered at the Alex.

“To date, we have seen no action on this and I understand why residents feel let down when a service loss has not been accompanied by the promised delivery of replacement services,” said Mrs Maclean.

“That is why I am now launching a campaign to bring forward, without further delay, plans for the promised implementation of the Urgent Care Centre and why I am calling for your help in supporting me in this bid by signing a Parliamentary Petition, which will be presented to the House of Commons by me.”

However a spokesperson for the county’s three GP-led Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) said: “Developing an Urgent Care Centre at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch was part of the proposals for changes to local services that were agreed last summer.

“Since then there has been some new national guidance and the CCGs are working with partners to consider the implications of that new guidance in relation to our original plans.

“Implementation will follow in the next 12 months as planned.”
