REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has responded to claims that she has ignored the efforts made by the town’s voluntary sector in tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
The MP had earlier praised the borough council saying it had ‘played a heroic role in coordinating the local response to coronavirus’, sparking a response from members of the public who had volunteered to help others during the height of the virus and beyond.
In response, Rachel Maclean MP said: “Throughout the pandemic I have been fully recognising Redditch’s voluntary groups, particularly because I have seen first-hand the work they do.
“This has been through helping them out myself, alongside a member of my family, to support the shielding and vulnerable with food and supply deliveries.
“This is why I know how brilliantly they have come together to support our community at this difficult time – and I am aware how many different groups and individuals have all played a key part – and I reiterate my thanks to them all.
“The article referred to was about a separate aspect of the support that has been provided to Redditch residents and businesses, forming a substantial financial package available to a significant number of businesses, who would otherwise have their survival threatened, putting at risk the livelihoods of their owners and employees.
“It is right that I recognise the work of the council in co-ordinating this response.
“I will continue to champion the vital work that our voluntary sector does in reaching out to those in desperate need in our Redditch community, as I have done since I was first elected in 2017.”
