Moving in date a reason to celebrate

Redditch Editorial 4th Jul, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

RESIDENTS are invited to celebrate the first estate to be built as part of the development of the new town.

As part of Redditch’s 50th anniversary, a party will be held to mark the creation of Greendlands where the first tenant moved in during 1968.

Councillors Rebecca Blake and Pattie Hill are inviting residents to the event at South Redditch Social Club on Throckmorton Road next Friday (July 11).

From 12pm until 3pm, a small exhibition of memorabilia from over the years plus refreshments will be on offer.

Everyone is invited to share their stories about the town’s development and learn more about its history.

Coun Blake said: “There are so many people in this town that played a part in the new town and we want to hear their memories and celebrate both the past and future of Redditch.

“If you have anything that you would like to bring along like old photos we would love to see them.”

Coun Hill added: “We have some splendid raffle prizes to be won to help raise money for the summer activities that Woodrow Library run for the local young people and so please come along and support our town’s 50th Birthday.”
