AN EXTRA £600,000 will be spent on children and families within Worcestershire.

The grant has been awarded to the county by the Department for Communities and Local Government as part of a £320million national ‘Transformational Challenge’ award.

It will be used to support the delivery of the Connecting Families programme, with a particular focus on trialling new approaches to working with youngsters across Redditch.

The scheme focuses on enabling individuals and communities to support themselves and getting services to work together to provide the best possible support. A variety of organisations are working in partnership to run the programme including Worcestershire County Council, Redditch Borough Council and Redditch and Bromsgrove Clinical Commissioning Group.

Hannah Needham, strategic commissioner for Early Help and partnerships, said: “I am looking forward to working with colleagues from across a wide range of services to find innovative solutions in improving the lives of children and families in Worcestershire.”

Kevin Dicks, chief executive of Redditch Borough and Bromsgrove District Councils, added: “I am delighted our bid was successful as, by working more effectively with each other, we have already helped families across the county get the right support for them. This funding means our innovative work can continue.”
